Karnal and neighbouring Taraori are the largest basmati paddy markets in India and set the benchmark price for the export trade.
The basmati belt runs across Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh, where the Geographical Indication for basmati applies.
We buy basmati rice premium directly at Karnal during peak arrivals, before the lots move to Ahmedabad for processing and packing. Buying at the source market means the widest choice of lots and no trader margin between the farmer and our customer, which is how we hold both quality and price.
